Welcome to day 2 of our Side Hustle Series! If you missed day 1 of the five-day series, catch up on this post. Today we're going to dive into how I made money by upselling baby and kids' toys and teaching night classes.

First, let me tell you about my side hustle of upselling toys. With a couple of little kids in the house, I quickly learned how fast they grow out of toys and clothes.

Luckily, I lived in a nice suburban neighborhood full of garage sales in the summer months. Always on a budget and the frugal side, we drove around garage sales with the littles in the back. We saw money-making opportunities left and right. We could pick up Little Tykes' preschool-aged playground equipment, let our kids use it for a while, clean it up, and make a profit by selling it on Craigslist or eBay. Baby items also did very well, as they were hardly used! This side hustle had the added benefit of an endless rotation of toys. One time we even got a kid's motorized Porsche 🚗. This side hustle brought in a couple thousand each summer to travel on.

Remember, traveling was our goal? So I was, suddenly hustling in my dad's footsteps as I treasure hunted away. 🛍

In addition to upselling toys, I also taught night classes at a local university 📚. This was a great way to supplement my income while also being home when my small children were awake. Teaching night classes allowed me to share my knowledge and experience with pre-service educators while earning some extra money. I taught courses on reading and writing instruction for elementary-aged teachers. I prepared future teachers how to teach reading and writing to elementary-aged students. It paid well, and I felt great knowing that I was making a positive impact on the future of education.

So there you have it, my side hustles of upselling toys and teaching night classes. These two strategies helped me maximize my earnings and bring in extra income while still spending time with my family and teaching part-time.
